About 401kGrade & our data
401kGrade is a free, independent site that grades employer 401(k) plans using public data. Every number comes from Form 5500 annual reports that plan sponsors file with the U.S. Department of Labor's Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA). The DOL publishes them as bulk datasets, updated about monthly.
This edition uses filings for plan years beginning in 2024, from the DOL dataset dated 2026-09-25: Form 5500, Form 5500-SF, Schedule H, Schedule I and Schedule C (Part 1, Item 2).
Grades are estimates. Filings report total employer contributions, not the match formula, and they don't include fund expense ratios. Grades are general information, not financial, tax or legal advice, and not an endorsement or criticism of any employer.
See How we grade. Employers who think their data is wrong can file an amended Form 5500 with the DOL, and our next monthly refresh will pick it up.
401kGrade may earn money in the future from clearly labeled partner links (for example, IRA rollover providers). No affiliate links are live today, and partner relationships will never change a grade.
